OLD SCHOOL RULES
We follow the OLD SCHOOL rules for outdoor volleyball. This is the same as you find at the Pottstown Rumble and almost every outdoor grass tournament played in the region. If you are new to the game, here is an overview of the rules
• Side out scoring.
• Let serve is a fault. (ball hits any part of the net on the serve)
• Blocks does not count as a hit.
• Serve receive with open hands NOT ALLOWED (panel or tomahawk allowed).
• Passing with open hands only permitted on a hard driven ball (straight, downward trajectory with no upward movement, clearly hit, not rolled or dinked).
• No tipping (knuckle poke or roll shots only).
• No redirecting blocks (contact must be made in the direction of the block, no swiping the ball sideways).
• Hand setting should be clean (butter) but should be officiated according to the level being played with more tolerance at the juniors, B and BB levels.
• Hand over sets are only allowed in the Open division.
• You may go under the net to get a ball but cannot interfere with opponents on the other side.
• You can NOT enter another adjacent court to pursue a ball (unless no match is taking place on that court).
• Touching the poll at net height is a fault. Touching a pole below the net is not, unless the net is disrupted by the player.
• A player may not touch the net at any time.
• If the hitting action finished in touching the net, it is a fault, even if the ball was grounded before the touch.
• If the lines get pulled up or the net drops during the middle of a play it is a redo.
• In the light of good sportsmanship, a rule disagreement should be settled by a replay.
